Fried Chicken with Mashed Potatoes

Crispy Fried Chicken

Ingredients:

For the Chicken:

  • 2 lbs chicken pieces (legs, thighs, wings, or breasts)

  • 2 cups buttermilk

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour

  • 1 tablespoon paprika

  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder

  • 1 tablespoon onion powder

  • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper (adjust to taste)

  • Salt and black pepper to taste

  • Vegetable oil for frying

Instructions:

  1. Marinate the Chicken:

    • Place the chicken pieces in a bowl and cover them with buttermilk. Let them marinate in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours or overnight for best results.

  2. Prepare the Coating:

    • In a shallow dish, combine the all-purpose flour, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper.

  3. Coat the Chicken:

    • Remove the chicken from the buttermilk, allowing excess to drip off. Dredge each piece in the seasoned flour mixture, ensuring an even coating.

  4. Heat the Oil:

    • In a large skillet or deep fryer, heat enough vegetable oil to submerge the chicken pieces to 350°F (175°C).

  5. Fry the Chicken:

    • Carefully place the coated chicken pieces into the hot oil, a few at a time, and fry until golden brown and crispy. Cooking times may vary depending on the size of the pieces.

  6. Drain and Rest:

    • Once cooked, transfer the fried chicken to a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil. Allow the chicken to rest for a few minutes before serving.

Title: Creamy Mashed Potatoes

Ingredients:

  • 4 large potatoes, peeled and cut into chunks

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter

  • 1/2 cup milk (or more, as needed)

  • Salt and black pepper to taste

  • Chopped fresh chives or parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Boil the Potatoes:

    • Place the potato chunks in a large pot and cover them with water. Bring to a boil and cook until the potatoes are fork-tender.

  2. Drain and Mash:

    • Drain the boiled potatoes and mash them using a potato masher or a ricer.

  3. Add Butter and Milk:

    • While the potatoes are still hot, add the butter and milk. Mash and mix until smooth and creamy. Add more milk if needed to achieve your desired consistency.

  4. Season and Garnish:

    • Season the mashed potatoes with salt and black pepper to taste. Garnish with chopped fresh chives or parsley if desired.

Serve the crispy fried chicken alongside the creamy mashed potatoes for a classic and comforting meal. Add your favorite gravy or a side of vegetables for a complete and satisfying dinner experience. Enjoy!
